#70. Walk the Dorset Coast

THIS WAS EPIC! I think I had totally underestimated just how long it takes to walk only very short distances on a map but I’m pleased to say that I made it from Hengistbury Head to Bridport in 3.5days and I’m very chuffed!

Some Stats:

  • 68miles
  • 26hrs 54mins solid walking
  • 1268m elevation gained
  • 5749 additional calories burnt

Day 1 – Hengistbury Head to South of Worth Matravers.

The first day was the longest, clocking in just under 25 miles. Walking from the picturesque Hengistbury Head along the sea front to Sandbanks, taking the chain ferry over to Studland and then on past Swanage via the beautiful Old Harry’s Rocks.

Day 2 – Worth Matravers to Weymouth

Another long day taking in some beautiful landscape and unique geology including Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. The terrain was vey undulating making the 20miles seem a whole lot more.

Day 3 – Weymouth to Puncknowle

After feeling ever more exhausted I decided to do less miles on the day, rolling in just under 16miles. Taking a slightly more inland route I ended up at the quaint village of Punckowle and camped for the night.

Final Day – Punckowle to Bridport

The final day was just under 10miles with a wonderful walk along Chisel beach and under the cliffs to the east of Bridport. I was really pleased to arrive in Bridport and see an end to this tough but very rewarding challenge. I am glad to say I have ticked this one off!
